ICAMCyL and University of León sign a collaboration agreement to promote scientific careers and innovation in the region
Icamcyl in the media / 28-03-2019ICAMCyL's general director, Santiago Cuesta López, and the rector of the University of León, Juan Francisco García Marín, signed last March 27 a collaboration agreement between both institutions. The aim of this collaboration is to work together in the promotion of transfer of knowledge and training activities, as well as to promote research, development and innovation in their common lines of work.
The agreement contemplates cooperation in R&D projects between ICAMCyL and ULe research groups, specifically those related to their common interests and lines, such as computational engineering, sustainable mining and development of new advanced materials.
In addition, collaboration will include the development of final projects in bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and new doctoral theses. The alignment of their lines of work with the Smart Specialization Strategy (RIS3) of Castilla y León will facilitate the incorporation of students to local job opportunities and therefore to retain local talent in Castilla y León and avoid the brain drain.
Both entities will also carry out knowledge transfer activities through the organization of forums, seminars, conference cycles, courses and other activities related to scientific culture, technological development and industrial innovation. The ultimate goal of the partnership will be to explore and capitalise their synergies.
"ICAMCyL takes a crucial step forward with this agreement, as it contributes to one of our main objectives as a competence centre in the region: becoming an active link between local industry and knowledge", claims Santiago Cuesta López.
This alliance will benefit both institutions, helping them to attract new projects and funding, but also will benefit university students and those companies in the territory looking for new highly qualified talent for their organizations. "Our mission as a driving force for R&D and innovation reaches here one of our main objectives: to involve the higher education community in our actions and projects, making local students and their University the agents of new and concrete actions," says the ICAMCyL's general director.
