Agreement between the ICAMCyL Foundation and the Official College of Technical Engineers and Graduates in Mining and Energy of Madrid to Promote 21st Century Sustainable Mining
Our day by day / 18-12-2024In a significant step towards sustainable mining and regional economic development, the ICAMCyL Foundation and the Official College of Technical Engineers and Graduates in Mining and Energy of Madrid have signed a strategic agreement aimed at revolutionizing the mining industry in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula.
This pioneering agreement focuses on supporting the implementation of the European Critical Raw Materials Act and fostering the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the sector. The agreement highlights various areas of collaboration, including the promotion of sustainable mining practices aligned with 21st-century objectives, ensuring compliance with new regulations and standards set by the European Union.
Both entities will work together to promote and facilitate research and development projects that enable a transition to cleaner and less invasive mining practices, leveraging the most advanced and sustainable technologies available. One of the primary focuses of the agreement is supporting independent professionals and SMEs in the mining sector by providing access to resources, training, and new technologies to improve their processes and enhance competitiveness in the market.
“This agreement represents a unique opportunity for small and medium-sized mining entrepreneurs to access innovations that would otherwise be out of their reach,” highlighted Santiago Cuesta López, Director General of ICAMCyL, emphasizing the foundation's commitment to local and regional economic development.
For her part, the Vice Dean, Ms. Mónica Álvarez Manso, added: “It is very important for us to share the latest advanced mining techniques that are redefining the industry and to implement solutions that improve efficiency while contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. Our comprehensive approach ensures that every stage is optimized to maximize environmental and economic benefits while guaranteeing the development of technologies that enable efficient and sustainable mineral extraction, minimizing environmental impact.”
The collaboration also extends to the application of the European Critical Raw Materials Act, a legislative framework aimed at ensuring a sustainable and secure supply of critical raw materials in Europe. ICAMCyL and the Official College of Technical Engineers and Graduates in Mining and Energy of Madrid will play a key role in explaining to society how this law will be implemented, while also promoting the adoption of best practices and technologies in the mining sector across Madrid, Ávila, Guadalajara, Salamanca, Segovia, Toledo, Valladolid, and Zamora.
Finally, the agreement seeks to strengthen and position the mining territory in this geographical area of the Iberian Peninsula as a leader in sustainable mining and as a model for implementing sustainability and innovation policies. “This is a decisive step toward a future where mining is not only economically viable but also environmentally and socially responsible with local communities,” concluded the leaders of both institutions.
With this agreement, both organizations reaffirm their commitment to a sustainable and prosperous mining future.
